If you've been searching for an alternative school for your neurodivergent child in the Philadelphia area — and coming up empty — this post is for you. Or maybe you've been watching Fáilte from a distance, wondering whether it's real, whether it will last — today I have something to tell you.

You've probably tried the obvious options. The IEP meetings that went nowhere. The private schools that seemed promising until they weren't. The therapists who suggested a "more supportive environment" without being able to tell you what that actually looks like or where to find it.

And maybe somewhere along the way you heard about Fáilte. A small program. A home setting. Shorter days. Something that didn't quite look like school as you knew it.

Fáilte Is Now an Official Nonprofit: Introducing Fáilte Academy

In January, Fáilte became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization — Fáilte Academy.

For families searching for a trauma-informed, neurodivergent-friendly school in the greater Philadelphia area, this matters. It means Fáilte is no longer just a small alternative school program. It is a recognized nonprofit organization with a board of directors, formal accountability, and a mission that is built to last.

Nothing about our approach has changed. We still believe that connection comes before curriculum. That children who have been hurt by traditional school systems need safety before they can learn. That neurodivergent kids — kids with ADHD, anxiety, autism, PDA profiles, sensory needs, or trauma histories — deserve a school environment built around who they actually are, not who the system needs them to be.

Becoming Fáilte Academy just means that foundation is now stronger.

And for the first time, we are able to accept donations from families and community members who believe that this kind of education should exist and grow. It also means we can start partnering with organizations that we previously couldn't. Exciting times here at Fáilte!

We Were Awarded Our First Grant

Within weeks of becoming a nonprofit, Fáilte Academy was awarded a $10,000 grant from Vela Education Fund, a national organization that invests in innovative, family-centered microschools and alternative education models.

Vela prioritizes funding projects that are serving families, responding to a demand in the community, making an impact now, and have a sustainable business model. Being recognized by Vela at this early stage is meaningful. It tells us — and we hope it tells you — that the model we have built for neurodivergent children, and kids who have struggled in traditional settings is worth investing in.

For families in the Philadelphia suburbs and Main Line area who have been looking for something different, that recognition matters.

Something Bigger Is Coming

Here's what I can tell you: Fáilte Academy (previously Fáilte Microschool) is growing.

We are in the process of expanding in a way that will allow us to serve more families — including many of you who have wanted to enroll but found our current location in Norristown too far from home.

I'm not ready to share all of the details yet. But I will be soon. And when I do, there will be concrete ways for this community to be part of what we are building.

If you've been on the fence about reaching out, let this be the nudge. Fáilte Academy is a nonprofit microschool for neurodivergent and twice-exceptional children in the greater Philadelphia area. It is real. It is growing. And it was built for children exactly like yours.
